Nelly Miles

Nelly Miles has been employed with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for 24 years. She currently serves as the GBI’s Public & Governmental Affairs Director, acting as a liaison between the agency and the media/public, coordinating the release of information about GBI services.  Additionally, she serves as the GBI legislative liaison to Georgia’s legislature and the Governor’s Office.

Nelly earned her Chemistry degree from Emory University in 1999.  She worked as a forensic chemist, Chemistry Assistant Manager, and Chemistry Manager for 16 years. Nelly made a leap from the sciences to communications in 2015, after being appointed as GBI’s Public Affairs Deputy Director.  One year later, she was appointed as Public Affairs Director.

In 2021, Nelly was awarded the Dr. Curtis McClung/Motorola Award for Excellence by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police for her work in the public & governmental affairs office.  In 2022, Nelly received the Women of Collaboration Award from the National WE Ministry for her community impact while representing the Office of Public & Governmental Affairs.  Nelly is the Chair of the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies’ (ASCIA) PIO Committee.  You can follow Nelly on Twitter and Instagram at @nellyomiles or connect with her on LinkedIn.
