Major Michael Kane has been a member of the New Jersey State Police for over 23 years and is currently assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Forensic & Technical Services Section. In July 2017, the Division of State Police established the Forensic and Technical Services Section within the Investigations Branch. The re-organization created the opportunity to align the Forensic Services Bureau with the other entities of the Office of Forensic Sciences whose responsibilities are technical and /or scientific in nature. The members of the Section are highly experienced forensic practitioners who provide services related to alcohol and drug testing, forensic imaging and composite art, crime scene investigations, ballistic examinations as well as laboratory analysis related to drugs, toxicology, DNA, trace evidence and anthropology. Major Kane’s duties consist of the supervision and coordination of all forensic science services performed by the members of the Forensic & Technical Services Section. He manages efforts to ensure that a quality system has been established to provide the law enforcement community the confidence that the results from our state laboratories are accurate, impartial and relevant.
