Michael Chitwood is the sheriff of Volusia County, Florida.  As a second-generation law enforcement officer, he has served in a variety of positions since 1988, including the Philadelphia Police Department, Chief of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Chief of Daytona Beach, Florida Police Department before being elected Sheriff in August of 2016.

He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (204th session) and Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. He has a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management from Eastern University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master’s in Criminal Justice from NOVA Southeastern.
