Joseph Wright

Joseph Wright is the Director of Security for Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) in Lincoln, NE.  LPS serves 42,000 students and has 6,000 employees.  Joe is responsible for leading the district’s safety and security efforts in a holistic manner in order to create a safe and productive learning environment for students, staff and community members.

In 2013 Joe created a threat assessment program for the district which is comprised of a multidisciplinary team that works with educators and human resources staff to prevent violence which may threaten LPS students and staff.

Prior to his work at LPS, Joe served the City of Lincoln for 27 years as a police officer retiring at the rank of captain.  Joe’s work focused on mental health and substance use issues, threat assessment and management, juvenile justice and reducing racial and ethnic disparity.

Joe is a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), is a past president of the Great Plains Chapter and served as the chair of ATAP’s Education Community.  Joe is an ATAP Certified Threat Manager (CTM).
