Cheryl Banks

Cheryl Banks has worked as a Community Educator on the issue of sexual violence since 1976.

She is currently an instructor for the NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance) Victim Assistance Academy and an advisor for NOVA’s National Advocacy Leadership Center.  Since 2014 she has provided training and workshops to victim advocates on sexual assault and related issues.  Through NOVA she worked as a Sexual Assault/Harassment Prevention and Response (SAHPR) Advocate for the National Science Foundation in Antarctica in 2023.

She is also an active member of the Prince George’s County, MD Human Trafficking Task Force, working with other Task Force members to bring awareness and solutions to human sex and labor trafficking in the County.

She was the Community Educator/Volunteer Coordinator at the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Center at UM Prince George’s Hospital Center for nearly 30 years (1992 -2021), providing training for law enforcement, medical personnel, social workers, attorneys, and many other professionals, as well as hundreds of presentations to elementary, middle, and high school students and community members.  At the hospital she also trained and coordinated over 300 volunteer victim advocates who provided front-line care to victims/survivors of sexual violence 24/7.
