Brenda Buren serves as the Tempe Police Department's Support Services Assistant Chief/Director. During her 25-year career with the Department, she has served in a variety of strategic, financial, technical, and operational capacities within the Police Department, while also working temporary assignments in the City Manager's Office.
Brenda served as the Co-Chair of the Tempe Police Department's Digital Evidence and Body Worn Camera Committee, which included working with Dr. Michael White from Arizona State University on research surrounding the implementation and impact of Body Worn Cameras in the Tempe Police Department.
She holds a Ph.D. from Arizona State University and attended the Kennedy School's Senior Executives in State & Local Government program at Harvard University. She has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses at Arizona State University's School of Public Affairs and published a book on citizen oversight of police.
