Webinar presenter Nicholas Augustine answered a number of your questions after his presentation, Responding to a Recruiting Crisis: Using Innovative Tactics to Transform Your Recruiting Practices. Here are just a few of his responses.
Audience Question: Do you use the same hiring process for civilian versus sworn personnel?
Captain Nicholas Augustine: So, depending on the position for our dispatchers, we do have a testing process. So they will come in and do our tests. They will then have an interview panel that they will go to and then after that they go into the background investigation. We do have different standards for the background investigation for our dispatcher positions. But what we’re noticing with our dispatch position is we don’t have a problem recruiting dispatchers, it’s more of a retention issue that we have with our dispatchers. So, it’s kind of a little different. It’s that kind of opposite of what we have the police officers for other professional staff positions. We do have advertisements for that and they come in for an interview panel and then that panel makes a selection and then they will go into the background phase of the process.
